Therapy Modalities:
I am a certified EMDR therapist through EMDRIA. I also completed level 3 training with Laurel Parnell in Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) through the Parnell Institute. Other areas of training include DBT, Compassion Focused Therapy and Strengths Based Therapy. I integrate the Polyvagal Theory and Ego States or Parts Informed approach throughout treatment. I continue to learn and expand my skill set with professional development in my areas of interest including; Internal Family Systems, Structural Dissociation, Ego States, trauma, mindfulness and new EMDR protocols. Therapy is always centered and tailored to the specific needs of each client.
I earned a Masters degree in Social Work from East Carolina University in 2001. Following that, I worked as a case manager and therapist at Southeastern Center for Mental Health serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring addiction. In 2005 I moved into a private practice setting and developed a passion for working with trauma survivors. I am skilled in working with survivors of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect, grief and loss, as well as anxiety and mood disorders.
Education and Experience:
Outside of Work:
I'm a lover of all things with 4 legs that snuggle, my 2 girls, my husband and my wildly busy life. I can often be found at lacrosse practices and tournaments with my teenage daughter or visiting my oldest daughter in college. I love going to the barn to spoil the two therapy horses, as well as practicing agility with my dog, Zoe. Zoe recently earned her Certified Therapy Dog title and we are working towards making therapy visits at local assisted living homes as well as supporting clients during therapy sessions at the office.
